Short loop from Girrakool picnic area past an Aboriginal rock engraving site (do not walk on it), bushland, waterfalls and Illoura, Bundilla and Andamira lookouts. The shady waterfall at Andamira is the photo stop people remember.

Easy-access lookout with picnic tables and sandstone country views. A legitimate Plan B when Somersby or Girrakool parking is full — not a substitute for the waterfall walk if that was the day’s point.

Is there an entry fee for Brisbane Water National Park?
Yes. NSW National Parks publishes $8 per vehicle per day, paid at machines (card) or via Park’nPay. Annual NSW Parks Passes are accepted. Confirm live on the official park page. This site never sells or affiliates park entry.
How long from Sydney?
About 70 km north of Sydney / ~12 km southwest of Gosford. Allow roughly 70–90+ minutes each way by car via the M1, then Wisemans Ferry Road (Somersby Falls / Girrakool) or Woy Woy Road (Patonga). Build a buffer for weekend traffic.
What should I do first on a first visit?
Most first-timers choose Somersby Falls (0.8 km return waterfall with many steps) or Girrakool Loop (2 km, engravings + lookouts). Don’t add a Great North Walk day onto a first short visit unless you have already planned the trains or two cars.
Do the picnic car parks lock?
Yes at Somersby Falls and Girrakool: 7am–8pm in daylight saving and 7am–6pm otherwise. The car park is locked at close. Lookouts do not save you if you parked at the picnic area.
Where can I camp?
Most people come for the day. NSW National Parks does not currently list a drive-in campground on the main park page. Pack camping has sometimes been linked to Great North Walk sections — check NSW National Parks for what is allowed now. Open fires are prohibited. This site never takes a cut from camping bookings.
