NPWS lists Great North Walk sections through Brisbane Water, including Wondabyne to Patonga and Patonga to Pearl Beach. Most people still come for the day. Treat GNW as a planned bushwalk with a train or two cars.

Wondabyne station has no road. Missing a request-stop is a walk problem, not a taxi problem. Do Somersby or Girrakool first so you know how the group handles steps and heat.

Camping honesty

The current main park page is written for day visits. Pack camping has sometimes been linked to GNW sections (e.g. near Mt Wondabyne). Older planning documents mentioned monitoring of informal pack camping. Check live NPWS camping pages. Never book camping through this site.

Wondabyne station

Request-stop, no road, no picnic-area assumption. Confirm trains with Transport NSW. Carry water well beyond tap assumptions. Emergency+ and offline maps before you lose signal.

Pick one long walk

Piles Creek from Girrakool, or Wondabyne–Patonga, or Patonga–Pearl Beach. Not all three plus Somersby. Heat in official visitor-info notes includes a recorded high of 43.8°C.

FAQ

Tap a question to expand the answer.

Can I drive to Wondabyne?

No. Wondabyne is a railway request-stop without road access. Confirm trains with Transport NSW.

Should this be my first visit?

Usually no. Do Somersby Falls or Girrakool Loop first. Then plan GNW as its own day with water, maps and a train or two-car plan.
